5 Ways to Promote Your Blog Posts and Get More Readers
Ok, so you’ve written the worlds best blog post and published it on your blog. Now what?
Unless you’re already very established and have a huge following you’re going to have to do a lot more than just sit around waiting for people to come check it out. In this post I’m going to cover five different things you can be doing after you hit publish to get your post noticed!
1. Get social!
The first thing you should be doing after you’ve pressed “publish” is get right over to all your favorite social sites and start spreading the word. Sites like Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, etc… are a quick and easy way to let people know that you’ve got something new for them. If your content is good enough to share then this can also be great for spreading it virally. You’ve already done the hard work of posting it to these sites so people are now just one “like” or “retweet” away from posting it to their own networks as well. This is a great way to get the ball rolling.
2. Blog networks and article directories.
Next take a few minutes to submit your blog post to the various sites that let you share your content. Most of these sites will allow you to post an excerpt of your post and then have link back to your site for people to read the rest. This can be a great way to get both readers as well as valuable SEO backlinks to your site.
3. Blog Commenting
After you’ve just finished writing up a great post is the perfect time to do some blog commenting. When you comment on other related blogs people are going to click through your link to check out your site. When they land on your site guess what they’re going to find… That’s right! Brand new fresh up to date awesome content that you’ve just finished writing! This will hopefully inspire them to leave comments on your post and thus complete the circle of life. (at least as far as blog commenting is concerned anyway.)
4. Re-purpose your content
The next thing you can do for an extra traffic boost to your new post is to turn it into a video, a podcast, a .pdf file or anything else that lets you distribute it in places it wouldn’t normally be able to go. This is one of my favorite things to do. Often after writing a post I’ll make a video either just repeating what I had in my post or sometimes explaining a point from it in greater detail. This then allows me to get traffic from sites like Youtube that I wouldn’t be able to get any other way. Extra traffic sources like this can can add up HUGE over time.
5. Email Your List
If you’re doing things right then you should be building an email opt-in list along side of your blog. If someone has signed up to your email list and continues to open your mail then they’re probably interested in what you have to say and will be happy to come check out your post. This can also be a great way to get the social sharing started. The people on your email list should already be “warmed up” to your posts so it should be a lot easier to get them to share your content than it would for just some random person of the street that found your post via a Google search or whatever.
These are just a few ideas but they can be powerful if done each and every time you hit “publish”. There are lots of ways to syndicate your content and hopefully this has you thinking of even more ways to get your content out!
I’d love to hear your ideas and things that are working for you in the comments below.
